Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you need a Safety Deposit Box?

A secure, convenient place for your most valuable and irreplaceable items — superior protection against fire, water and theft compared to home storage. Only you know what's inside, and storing in a professionally managed vault can even lower your insurance premiums.

Who will have access to my Safety Deposit Box?

Only you. Access requires two layers: biometric (wrist vein reader) and physical (your unique key). We do not retain any keys matching your box — only you can open it.

Do I need to insure the contents of my box?

Every box includes $10,000 of insurance as part of our service. Additional cover can be arranged — you would disclose contents to the insurer for evaluation. We maintain no knowledge of what's in your box.

Can anyone see what I have in my box?

No. Your possessions sit in a closed container inside the vault, and you manage them in complete privacy — private viewing rooms are available for added discretion.

What am I unable to store?

Anything illegal or hazardous — including firearms, explosives, ammunition, drugs, flammable liquids and other dangerous materials.

What is the shortest rental period?

Minimum one month; the most common term is 12 months. Before your agreement expires you can extend automatically or with your approval.

If I lose my key, can the finder open my box?

No. The key is only one of two security layers — without the biometric wrist vein reader, no one can even enter the premises. The vault is under 24/7 surveillance.

Can a staff member open my box?

No. Staff hold only a Custodian Key that opens one of the two locks — it cannot open any box on its own. A refundable $300 Security Key Deposit covers lock replacement if you ever lose your key (drilled out only in your presence).

What can I store in my box?

Anything that would make you say "if I lose this, I'm in trouble": insurance policies, birth/marriage certificates, deeds, titles, contracts, stocks and bonds, bullion, precious metals, jewellery, medals, rare stamps, collectibles, photo negatives — and increasingly, cryptocurrency keys and hard drives.

If VIP Vaults is liquidated, are my valuables secure?

Yes. The contents of your box can never be deemed assets of VIP Vaults, so they cannot be seized by a liquidator or administrator.

Do you offer Bullion Locker Safes?

Yes — we offer dedicated Bullion Locker Safes, housed in a secure, purpose-built bullion vault. With a bullion locker you have complete, sole control — you hold the only keys, and VIP Vaults does not retain a custodial key. (A custodial key applies only to our safety deposit boxes, as a second security layer.) Call 1800 190 206 for details.

Custodial Vaulting; Can I see what value my investment held in the vault is currently?

You can securely log in to our website to access your metal account statements. These statements allow you to confirm the details of your account holdings at the time of purchase, at the end of the financial year, and upon request.
